Vans Half-Cab Review

By Relisch at 2009-11-27 20:44

This is my review of the Vans Half-Cabs.

The Shoe:
This shoe comes in many different color-ways (pictured bellow). I got what seems to be the most popular, the black and white.

They are mostly sold from 55-65 dollars. I bought mine from CCS, for $60. These can be purchased at almost every skate shop, and tons of places online. i would suggest:

ccs.com
activerideshop.com
utilityboardsupply.com
blackholeboards.com
skatewarehouse.com
skateparkoftampa.com
and, shop.vans.com

The Half Cabs are a mid-top shoe that offers some ankle support. Vans double-stitched the suede uppers and gave these shoes a layered ollie area for durability. The waffle-grip sole helps you stick to your deck, and the single-padded tongue cushions and supports without too much bulk.

First Impressions:
I did not hesitate to buy these shoes, after what I had heard about them. Loving, Vans, mids, and skating, these seemed like the perfect shoe for me. The weren't hard to break in, and the suede is really nice.

The Review:

Comfortability:
Surprisingly, these weren't the most comfortable shoes I have had. The sole was a little bit more stiff, than what I would have liked. It also didn't seem to get better the more I wore it, so if your feet get hurt easily, I would recommend putting in an extra insole. And the upper part of the shoe(around the ankle) seemed a bit flimsy at first. But the more, and more I wore these, the more comfortable they got. I would say a fairly comfortable shoe.

Durability:
This shoe very durable. The suede buy the toe of the shoe doesn't rip very fast, which is great. It does kind of mold with the white part of the shoe, and I'm not sure if that's food or bad. The double stitching helps support the layers of fabric, kind of like it does on the inseam of jeans. The only thing that wasn't very durable would be the very toe part of the show, and the top of the ankle. Also the back of the heel in my pushing shoe blew out fast. All in all a very durable shoe.

Skate-ability:
These shoes are in fact some of the best, if not the best, shoe for skating. This shoe was designed around skating. There is just the right balance of board feel, impact support, and breathability, which to me are they three key components of a skate shoe. It also has amazing grip, with the Vans signature waffle sole. I guess there is not much to say about the skate-ability of the shoe besides; awesome!

Looks:
Looks will be the fourth and final area I will review these shoes. Let me say, the shoes are sexy. Especially in black and white, but all of the color-ways are bangin'. This shoe just looks incredibly good. And the suede doesn't shoe too much dirt, so your shoes always look clean. Black shoes>Any other color shoe, IMO.

The Verdict:
This is one hell of a shoe. Fair comfort, great durability, awesome skate-ability, and a sexy looking shoe. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fair priced shoe, with great durability, and absolutely amazing skate-ability. One of the best shoes I have ever had. An easy 9/10 for the Vans Half-Cab.

No point in making this an article since you've already posted it as a Contribute thread....Although, I guess it's a good way to see how everything works with the article making process.

Yea, the heel protection was lacking. But I don't skate very many stairs or big gaps.

CCS is horrible. It's an online Zumiez. Active, SPoT, Blackhole, and Skate Warehouse all own CSS any day.
