Supra Double E Review

Supra Double E Review

A lot of people view Supra Footwear ( www.suprafootwear.com ) differently as a company. From the whole high-top craze to funky patterns Supra is really about the art of footwear. Some people love the look of the hightops and don't care that they cost twice as much as some other perfectly skateable low tops, while other people think hightops are stupid, the whole trend is completely uncalled for, and they wish Supra would just make normal shoes. Well today I'll be reviewing some Supras on how they performed, and not so much how they looked. The Supra Double Es are one Erik Ellington's Pro models. They are kind of a take off of Emerica's version of Ellingtonís shoe, just with the two Es horizontal, not verticle.

First Impressions

Once again, I purchased these from www.6pm.com for around $30. When I opened the box and took out the actual shoe box I was super stoked. The interesting thing with the shoe box is that instead of the top flipping up, there's a drawer that slides out with big metal eyelets, it just makes you wonder if you really got this for this cheap. The shoes themselves look so gnarly, a simplistic shape combined with some metallic style. On the tongue of the shoe there's a metal "ee" crest that looks gnarly, then on the back there's a metal supra logo. I noticed the whole design looked pretty solid with some triple stitching on the toe cap and such. So at first they were a little stiff, but I quickly broke them in and started skating.

Skating Them

Before these I was skating Vans SK8-HIs, so I was going from a super thin vulc to a thick cupsole. The transition wasnít too bad, the Supra Cupsoles actually have a good amount of boardfeel, especially when they're really good and broken in. I was very impressed with how the side of the shoe held up. Throughout their life the toe cap wore away very cleanly, the suede melted away evenly and slowly, and a plastic layer really stopped anything from ripping open. The side of the shoe held up fantastic. I do a lot of ollies so I always expect to have a gaping hole in the side, but I had just a few scratches on the leather and no more. The soles wore down very slow, only now 3.5 month into their life has a little of the sole become flat. Another thing I must touch on was the leather. When I started skating these the first week they smelled horrible when I took them off. I suspect that this was due to Supra using legit leather for most of the shoe. Also the ventilation was pretty bad, about 3 month in I had to wash the insoles and bleach them because they started to smell bad again. Aside from the insoles getting nasty they were really cushiony and good at supporting my feet with harsh landings. The collar of the shoe was one of the most well designed collars I've seen, it rests right below your ankle and gives you a low top look, but it has killer ankle support.

Statistics:

Grip These shoes have loads of grip, even on worn down tape they stick pretty good.

9/10 Durability Fantastic durability, these are tough as nails.

10/10 Flick The toecap had a good design and it gives off a nice and even flick.

9/10 Impact The impact on these was perfect, even when worn down you can gap anything with no worries.

9/10 Style These had some major style points, Supra knows how to snazz it up.

10/10 Overall Super well rounded shoe.   9.5/10

Final Points

Benefits:

  • Toecap ripped slowly and cleanly.
  • Side doesn't get holes.
  • Soles were grippy and wore slow.
  • They look gnarly.
  • Great ankle support for a total low top.
  • They gave off a nice flick.
  • Impact support was right where it should be
  • Soles had some good boardfeel for cupsoles

Detriments:

  • The genuine leather smells the first few days of skating.
  • Bad ventilation, so you may need to give the insoles a wash if they start smelling.

Who are these for?

These shoes are for basically everyone. The street skating is good because they wear slow and have good impact resistance, while transition skaters would enjoy them due to the mild boardfeel and grip of the soles

And as always I hope you enjoyed this review, thanks for reading! ~Mr. G

yeah, it's a little sketchy because they look exactly the same as the og ellingtons, they skate good though.
