Default Longboarding

I'm not sure if this has been suggested before but, I think that, since this is a skateboarding website, there should possibly be a longboarding section? I understand that there are forums for longboarders on the internet, but since this site is "Skateboard-City", shouldn't there be a place for longboarders too since longboarding is just another type of skateboarding?

I think this site could be the best of both worlds, haha.

Good idea. I actually longboard more than regular board anymore an I know a bunch of members who longboard, so I think a new section would work well.

Exactly, that seems to happen a lot. Many of the locals here who used to shred the gnar at the parks now ride longboards. It seems to take less of a toll on your body, yet you can still express your love for skateboarding.

Not entirely. I usually get pretty beat trying 20mph+ powerslides haha. I've sprained my wrist and gotten two concussions from it (once with a helmet, once without).

All I do is longboard these days. I'm mostly into soft wheel sliding/freeriding, but am starting to dabble in tech sliding.

Speaking of techsliding...how sick is this video? YouTube - Chris Dahl sliding in North Vancouver

Longboarding sounds pretty cool. But you're saying it's just another kind of skateboarding?

YouTube - Let's Go Skating

The groms in my neighborhood are all about the soft wheels and carving.

Longboarding isn't harder, nor is it easier. It all depends on what type of riding you do. Longboards are more or less larger skateboards with softer wheels (75a-86a).

Longboarding has a lot of disciplines, if you will.

It's almost 1am, and I'm pretty tired, but as a quick overview, there's:

Carving/cruising...exactly as the name implies.

Dancing: more or less moving around the board/cross stepping and doing various maneuvers YouTube - Skating to Sunshine
freestyle tricks are also often incorporated with dancing. Tricks like tiger claws, old school kickflips, etc

Freeriding/softwheel sliding: YouTube - Longboarding: Malibu Invitational Slide Jam
YouTube - Landyachtz Longboards - Eh Team Episode 12 - Welcome Kyle Martin

Speedboarding: Pretty much going as fast as you possibly could, tucking, and drifting (or railing) turns... YouTube - Drop: My Life Downhill

Sick video DVS! Kyle Martin shreds.

I've recently found a new a new great place to longboard. Golf cart paths in the off season are narrow, bendy, steep, smooth and deserted. I recommend finding a nice path to go skate as they're perfect 5/12 of the year to shred (at least where I'm from).

You on Silverfishlongboarding.com? Haha.

And when I say it's another type of skateboarding, I mean that a longboard is technically a skateboard, so yeah, it's a division of skateboarding, like vert and street skating.

We need to get more longboarders in here, for the longest time I thought I was the only longboarder on here.

And to DVS, oh my fucking God that was sick.

Earthwing <3. Ugh I was gonna go longboard today but it started pouring, so I guess I'm going to have to wait until Sunday. I need a new pair of sliding gloves, I lost my old ones and I made some ghetto ones but they are so damn uncomfortable. Posi to anyone who can link me to a good, new, cheap pair of sliding gloves.

Landyachtz have been my favorite so far. Loaded's suck. I've heard the Sector9 gloves (the leather ones) aren't bad either.

Or, you could buy a pair of Mechanix from Home Depot and just buy pucks. I recommend Phat Deanz, Black Velvets, or Ojooms.

Also, Earthwing FTW. I have a Mystery Model, Belly Racer, Supermodel, and Corchia. I also have waaaaay too many boards haha. Other than the EW's I listed above, I have an Evo, Nemesis, Apex 37 (regretfully), and two Sector Nines.

I have some Sector 9 gloves and they are alright, and I agree about the Loaded gloves. They are sooo uncomfortable.

Why is there still no longboarding section

Sadly, I don't there are enough members who longboard for the section to be made, but who knows. It'd be awesome if they did make one.

Also, to those of you who longboard, do you guys wear helmets?

I personally have ever since I got a concussion in March doing a toeside 180. I got highsided, hit my head, and couldn't do anything for two months. Wearing one has saved me from head injuries numerous times since.

I think there are tons of longboarders on here, they just don't visit SB-C Talk very much haha. I think if we try the longboarding section out, more people will show up.

I don't wear a helmet because I don't have one, but hopefully I get one for Christmas.

Please search "Broken Head" here on SB-C and then use the "Helmet Deals" thread on Silverfish to find either a brand-new FREE helmet or killer, under 20 dollar deals on brand new, badass helmets. You're a longboarder: you know its the kooks that go without lids and you don't care if you don't look like Justin Beiber with perfect hair. Put a lid on for chrissakes.

Yep, that's one of a few links you'd have found for a free lid. Unfortunately, Ian Tillman Foundation isn't currently able to send helmets, since their original endowment has been fully spent.

Some aspects of longboarding, not always on longboards. Sortof all-boarding:

Wow thanks for the link, I sent them an email to notify me when they can possibly begin distributing helmets again. That's a tragic story, no one should have to go through that...

Thanks again for the link!

$90 from East Coast Core Skates.

It's usually $100, I just had a 10% discount.

Oh, and fyi, TuTone is run by a member on Silverfish (ton), which is pretty sick.

I always wear helmets. If you're dumb enough not to there's not much in your head to protect.

I am looking at some Landyachtz gloves, thanks for the suggestions guys.
