Element Griggs review

By reptiskate52 at 2007-10-08 14:57

Alright, alright, Element shoes. How horrible, disgusting, a disgrace, blah, blah, blah. The problem with this is that Element is NOT a bad company! I mean, Bam really did make it mainstream and rape it's name a little, but come on, are you saying that just because they have one asshole on their team that they're all pricks and make bad products? Please, it's not a big deal and makes no difference to you at all.

So, my review today will be on the Chad Timtim "Connect Edition" Element Griggs.

Looks: I'm sorry about my lack of a camera and that these shoes are nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find, I'll have to describe them my self. In their simplicity, they're a standard all black, mid-thickness, mid-top with a blue band around the ankle depicting doves and a white dove on the outer side of each shoe. The tongue has a nice thickness, a little on the thinner side, and the sole is just a standard white with blue skate-stipe vulc. Personally, I love the looks of these.

Grip:
An odd grip at best. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but they sole design is just odd. Instead of having a normal ripple pattern, they're some what like little wings. Wonderful grip, though. Does wear out quite fast but nice nonetheless. The only thing you'll really need to know is you won't slip-out, but prepared for a quick wear-out.

Boardfeel:
It's a vulc sole at it's simplest, what do you expect? Damn good boardfeel is what you should expect. great feel, almost like sock skating with an added comfort layer. Very flexible, to add to that. An easy shoe to get used to skating, with almost no break-in time. My one complaint is that there is a slight are bubble in both shoes that is pretty uncomfortable. But after some skating, they blow out nicely. Remember, these are not good big drop shoes. There's little to no impact support. Best for rail, ledge, pad, etc. skating.

Durability:
Ah, shieet. The one flaw. They were doing so well, too. Let me put it this way, they ripped on a tre on the first day. The side of both shoes were completely shaved down by the end of the first week. The sole is now wearing pretty badly and starting to fall out in some parts. Little to no lace protection provided for a ripped lace after two hours. It's too bad, I really liked these shoes up until this point. Definitly more of a cruise around, hit that ledge a few times, chill-shoe.

Price:
Sorry, but these shoes are impossible to find. I've looked everywhere online and couldn't find them. I bought them at the Element store in NYC for $50. Were they worth it for the looks? Yes Yes Yes. Were they worth it for skating? No No No. I only suggest buying a pair of these if you're a light skater or just for school/chilling.

Overall:
Element shoes? I can't believe I'm about to type this. Underrated. This whole "BAM SUX 3l3m3nt gh3y!" shit needs to stop. They're definitly great looking shoes with an overall nice skate feel and ride. They aren't all that durable, but they do skate rather great. Not the best I've ever had, but definitly not the worst.
6/10
