DVS Jeron Wilson 3

By skating the USA at 2007-05-05 14:28

The shoe that I will be reviewing today is the DVS Jeron Wilson 3 model.

I will be breaking this review down into:
Durability
Board feel
Grip
Comfort
Ventilation
Style

So let the shoe review begin!

Durability: Now, I've only been skating these gems for three or four days. But, I can tell from the damage I've dealt to all my other shoes in three days that this shoe is unique. No ripping so far, and I usually start ripping shoes within three hours. This could be due to the layering, a strip of suede along the toe, leather under that, and then a layer of rubber. Normally, there is two layers on skate shoes. Leather/Suede and a rubber layer. So these are much stronger than any other shoe. Unfortunately, all the layers slighty cuts down on the ventalation so your feet might get a little more sweaty than your used to.
Laces, laces, laces. One of the two things that keeps the shoe on your foot. The elastic band you will find on the inside of the shoe is something that won't be damaged with skating, so laces will be the main focus in this paragraph. Be honest, you don't like walking around with three laces up top and all your other laces snapped and tied in a knot, right? Me neither. These laces won't have that problem for a while. I can snap laces within 15 minutes of skating. As you know, I've been skating these for three days. Guess how many laces have snapped? NONE! Even after three days of intense skating, the only damage to these laces is the bottom two are barely becoming frayed. Plus, like most other skate shoes, they come with an extra pair of laces. So whenever all your laces are gone, which could be a long time seeing as how strong these laces are, you can put these in and hopefully they will be as strong as the first ones. I have a feeling they are, but I hope it will be a long time before I can decide how good the spare laces are.

Board feel: Very good. At first, it feels a bit stif. But once you break them in after about an hour, it has as good board feel as a pair of shoes that have been skated for four months. This doesn't mean that the sole wears out fast, it hasn't even lost any grip on mine, just that these shoes get broken in very fast. Lets move on to the grip of the shoe since I've said pretty much all I can say in this section

Grip: Great. In the begging, it feels a bit over grippy. But you need to just give it time to break in. The uniqe grip pattern makes it not too grippy, but not too slippery. Just right. Also, the grip pattern makes it super long lasting. I know this because I start wearing holes in the bottom of my shoes after about four hours of hard skating. But after three days there has been no wear on the grip at all.

Comfort: This shoe is pretty comfy. They are a little hot on the inside, but we will talk about this in the ventilation section. I wear these shoes to school and to skate in, and they are both comfortable if it's walking or pushing the skateboard.

Ventilation: Like all shoes, this shoe has its down side. The down side is ventilaton. It's defineately nothing to brag about on this shoe. So far, the only ventilation I could find was a thin tounge and three small holed in the toe. So this shoe gets very hot because of all the layers (suede, leather, and rubber) and because of the lack of ventilation.

Style: Definately a plus on this shoe. The color way is very nice. Dark brown, tan, and white. Here's a picture:

The design also looks very nice. Also there is an option of a very stylish ankle strap which you would insert where the picture indicates:

To insert the ankle strap you just put the strap in the big slit where the laces are at the top. You will have to take the laces out of the big slit. I can't find a picture of the ankle strap, but I will tell you that they look VERY good.

My overall rating for this shoe is 9.5/10

This concludes my review of the DVS Jeron Wilson 3. I hope you found it helpful if you are looking for a good skate shoe.

I will be posting a follow up review on this shoe onces they become unskateable. But I don't know when that will be because the shoes are so good!
