Chocolate is a fairly well known skateboard company. They are a branch off of the better known company Girl. They have a stellar team, that has been threw a lot but are still throwing it down. First, let’s get to know the company before we jump into the review. The team is made up of Marc Johnson, Scott Johnston, Gino Iannuci, Chris Roberts, Devon Callaway, Chico Brenes, Kenny Anderson, Daniel Castillo, Anthony Pappalardo, and Justin Eldridge.
Chocolate Graphics tend to be very simple. They use contrasting colors, and simple patterns to catch an eye. Their graphics are always clear-cut, and non-vulgar, which can be hard to find. Either you are going to love the graphics, or hate them. It all just depends on what you’re into.
The decks themselves are average in my opinion. One positive, is they are 100% American made with 7 ply’s of Canadian hard-rock maple. They have a good amount of pop, but it doesn’t seem to last long. The concave is mellow. It’s not super steep, but also not flat. I find that it could be a little better.
The Durability on these decks is decent. I found that the tail wears down fairly fast. I was on the 3rd layer of ply around the 2nd or 3rd week of skating. Also, the pop seemed to diminish. A plus to these decks, is that the tail and nose are almost identical, so if one wears down too much just switch ends.
Overall, I think that it is a great company, selling some decent boards. They are no “super deck” incapable of breaking, but they are definitely worth trying out. I personally love these boards, they are the perfect shape and style for me, and I think the graphics reflect some what of who I am. Give them a shot, you may be pleasantly surprised!
