Blast from the past #1

Maybe it’s just me or it’s everyone that has been skating a long time, but skateboarding lately has been filled with too much bullshit. You know, with all the Maloof’s buying their way into skateboarding, Private parks (and footage of people skating them,)P-Rod putting Mountain Dew patches on every hat he wears, and Bobby Diesel (Rob Dyrdek) as a whole have been taking away from the rawness of skating.

Sure, maybe I’m just becoming a nostalgic dude, thinking that the skateboarding industry and videos used to be better and with much less bullshit, but whatever. I’m going to post a video part that’s at least 5 years in part to show you how awesome skateboarding has always been and why videos used to be better before (most videos at least), but mostly to show you guys some good skating.

To kick things off I’m posting Sean Sheffey’s part in mouse.

Sheffey was one of the first people with the approach of just attacking shit, instead of doing more difficult tricks, skateboard cityhe always had monstrous pop but still his lines looked very smooth. The line at 0:32 is one of my favorite lines with a beautiful switch tre. I guess I posted this because it seemed that back in the 90’s people just went out and skated around the city, and that their video parts represented how they skated on a daily basis basically. Sure, there is nothing wrong with taking trips, not at all, but what happens when people take trips is that they go to the same spot everyone goes to and there is no more skating around like it would happen if you were in tour city trying to find shit.

This is why I really liked Dylan Rieder’s online part, since most of his stuff was filmed around where he lives and it really shows, that you can really film parts in your own area, you just need to get a little more creative.

Anyways, I’m sorry to sound bitter, but that’s my opinion. Let’s not get carried away by opinions because everyone is entitled to have their own. Let’s just enjoy this fine piece of skateboarding so we can all get hyped to go skate and have a blast. If you would like to suggest a part for me to post on one of these just leave a comment or pm me. Happy Skateboarding!
