July 2010 MOTM: StarCraftLedZeppelin

GetThunderStruck here, presenting another Member of the Month. First of all, I would like to apologize for the delay. Originally another writer was doing it, but had to put it aside for life. So, I picked it up. StarcraftLedZeppelin won for the month of July, and here’s what he had to say…

I honestly don’t know what to put for an intro, I didn’t think I’d ever win this.
I kinda see myself as another brick in the wall of the mighty SB-C.

Well, we can go straight into the real deal.

Alright, first things first- What’s the name?

Jason is my name name, every one is lazy as fuck and just calls me Jay.

Well Jason, lets start simple. How old are you, and where do you reign?

Seattle, Washington. Seattle has been my home for the majority of my life, I’ve lived in other states but for what ever reason I keep getting drawn back to Seattle. I’m currently 23 years old.

Nirvana

Ooh, Seattle. You jam out hardcore to Nirvana? Just kidding, but what music DO you jam to?

Nirvana jokes haha, yeah every one only listens to Nirvana while drinking coffee and wearing flannel. The kind of music I listen to is hard to pin point. I’ve changed drastically what I listen to over the years. I’ve gone with fads and listened to what the general school population listened to, and then I’ve gone completely on my own and just listened to a lot of stuff.
Hell even a top 3 wouldn’t justify it, not that what I like to hear now a days is that diverse. 3 is just a small number, out of 3 though something that… say if I was on a island and there was only so much I could hear..

Haha, making it difficult.

Led Zeppelin, all of Ozzy Osborn’s work, Pink Floyd.

Thank you, haha

That’s not a definite answer, when ever I’m on the spot like this. I call them “in the moment answers”
I’m already questioning what I put down.

(We had an intermission here, while Jason went to the store)[/i]
mmmmmmm feeling good now

haha, what did you get at the store?

Only the nastiest most disgusting tasting drink ever known to malt liquor– High Gravity Lager Earth Quake. It’s 12% alcohol volume.

Haha, sounds intense.

In The Moment Answers

Well, that’s why I shot gun them, to spare my taste buds. Although my stomach takes a beating like no tomorrow. No wonder i was puking and shitting blood for a while.

Okay, this is Skateboard City, not the Oval Office haha… What do you cruise the city on?

Well, for the most part I suppose I post in general off topic. I always lurk game forum.
Politics is kinda iffy, maybe when there’s nothing els else left. I’ll look into the general skate talk and such often, but I don’t post a lot. Sports section is kinda like last resort.
I kinda feel bad for only posting in general off topic, like I can imagine skateboard city being probably two thirds not about skating and one third about skating.

Yeah, only noobs do that, but about skating, what boards do you ride? What about kicks?

Honestly, I’ll ride what ever I can. I’ve had plenty of free decks but really
it depends on how expensive the board is. There’s this local thrift store
in Seattle.

You can get boards at a thrift store?

http://www.svdpusa.org/
Saint Vincent De Paul, they are located in Seattle. I imagine they’re all over the states,
I don’t know for sure, but they have shipments from Zumies so everything is brand new.
I walk in there and build complete brand new skateboards for like $55-70 dollars.
That is a god damn steal.

You really can’t beat that.

Yeah, normally I like to skate smaller skateboards, deck and truck-wise.
It’s kinda odd when most people see me skate because I have size 14 us mens size shoes,
but i feel the most comfortable on a mini deck. Shoes I always have to have high tops because of my ankles. I’m wearing mids right now though, wish they were hightops.

Oh, I love high tops dude. So, what do you enjoy doing on the board?

I grew up skating ledges and flat ground and I dabble in stair sets and loading docks.
Skate parks are foreign to me. I’ve been trying to get into them lately but I just don’t want to learn the same thing every one else learns so i do tricks i see no one else do,
well at least try to do them, i’ve got bad ankles now a days so I can’t do shit, really.

Damn dude, sounds pretty whack.

🙁

It is. something you’ve done for the majority of your life is becoming less and less likely of happening.

Mhm. It’s unfortunate but comes to all of us with time. But less about that, we don’t want to depress the readers… How about a favorite trick?

Yeah, my bag of tricks now a days is really sporadic. Back in the day when I skated 9 and a half hours a day, I had so many tricks but now I’m lucky to skate an hour with out my ankles killing me. But, switch 50-50 grind back side fakie 180 out. It always impresses people when I say it’s switch.

Ooh, sick. Nice and simple tech. I approve.

maybe fakie big flip

Ah, another fun one.

I can push switch faster than a lot of my friends can push normally, so anything that appears to be nollie or something now, fakie tre 50-50 backside half cab out
when really its not, just makes me feel good.

Ha, true. Really, the simple things can be the most impressive.

I don’t push switch mongo either, I do it proper.

Oh, damn. I can’t.

I’ve been skating for a while now

How long?

I sat on boards and rode down hills as a kid, I still remember riding on my butt down hill so fast and I hit a parked car. That was a bummer. I didn’t actually try tricks until I was 14, so 9 years now doing tricks.

What skateboarders influenced you the most, would you say?

I’m probably going to sound like a dork but Rodney Mullen was the first. Just watching what he’s
capable on a skateboard when I was just working on ollies really inspired me. I even messed around with flat land free style for a bit too, I was getting stuff
down like pogo and other things.

Oh, not at all. Rodney is king.

Hm, okay. Aside from skating, is there anything you enjoy doing?

I’m a big video game player. Hell, I learned how to read just to play Mario Paint on the Super Nintendo when I was a kid.

Haha, that’s bad ass.

Newest generation console I have is a Wii, I soft mod it a lot. Play modified super smash brothers brawl and stuff, Brawl+.

Oooh, I remember the sig. I’ve always wanted to get into modding like that.

you ever try those shoes with wheels in them?

Big Video Gamer
Oh my haha, Heelys. The Unknown Soldiers interview had a run in with them too. I think I’m cursed.

I saw a lot of people ride those, or the shoes with plastic underneath so you could like pretend grind stuff but
I never got a chance to try out either of them.

Yeah, I saw a video actually not long ago of kids doing it. It looked almost fun.

I like to build things, it’s always fun to construct things with your own hands.
I’ve built myself tons of things to skate before and welding is cool as fuck.
I actually used to work in a metal shop, for a while, so I had free materials.

Damn, sounds like a hot spot to be at.
I know i’d kill to have a welding workshop and free materials.

I suppose I should mention my computer work

Lets hear it.

I’m gonna be going into the IT field. People always tell me I should be doing something
with computers, like job wise and shit. I always just ignored it and did other shit
computers was something I toyed around with for fun but now I’m done
resisting it and I’m just going to flow with it.

Awesome.
You going to college for it, or just looking for one?

College for it, it’s a community college, though.
I fucked up my education during middle school and high school moving so much, not going
skating 9 hours a day I had to sacrifice something…so I just didn’t go to school.
I have my GED now though and I’m going to a community college.

Well, its good that you’ve got everything back on track then.

I plan on transfering to University of Washington when I’m done.
I’ve also got this sweet job at a casino waiting on me to finish schooling
they want me to work their security section. My cousin already works at the casino and hes been telling them all about me so they want me as soon as possible. I’ve been told the job pays like $30.00 an hour.

That’s fucking bomb.

Yeah, computers are in everything now a days…Hell, your car has them now a days,
so I see it becoming very successful for me…

Yeah, computers definitely are not going anywhere.

So, is there anything you can think of you’d like to include?
Any last words to instill on the readers minds?

Well, hmm… Big shout out to all the gurus, any one who drinks…yay for weed…
I dont really know man, the fact that I won must mean they’re running out of quality people
heh
