How’s it going, dude? Why don’t we start out the cliche way and you can tell everyone about yourself. Age, gender, etc.
It’s going great, I just barely graduated so I’m super stoked on that (I wasn’t supposed to graduate this year but I barely made it the teachers said it was a miracle). It’s summer now so I guess I can skate all day again and I’ll be going to Florida next month for two months of intense skating. My name is Gerardo Sosa I was born December 19, 1992 I live in Guatemala City, Guatemala and I love skateboarding, Oh, I’m a male too.
Sweet, so next is college, I’m assuming?
Yeah, I plan on studying advertising and I was originally going to college in spain, but a little to much partying ruined that for me so now I have to stay here, but I plan on leaving after the first year.
That’s awesome. Where do you plan on going after the first year?
Probably Spain, or maybe Florida.
I guess I didn’t have to ask haha. Do you currently have a job?
Not currently, I plan on just getting a small job at a call center or maybe a coffee shop to save up some money for when I get out of here.
Ah, summer jobs always suck haha. Anyway, we’ll get back to the personal shit later. How did you come across SBC back in ’06?
I had just started skating and I was chilling at my friends house and he was checking out his e-mail and I saw he had an e-mail from skateboard-city, so when I got home I immediately checked it out and was instantly hooked
Interesting. I would have guessed that it would have been looking for trick tips, like most people say. Every time I see you posting on the site, it’s always about skating. I rarely ever see you posting in GOT. How long have you been in the game for and what got you into it?
I started skating like 5 years ago after I was diagnosed with Diabetes, I had always wanted to skate and since I was told I had to do some exercise. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to start.
Damn, that’s intense. But I guess it’s some damn good motivation haha. Do you have any sick skating-related stories to tell everyone?
There are too many to tell, every time I go out and skate there is a new story. Some of the ones that have left me the most stoked I have posted on the site but I’ll tell one that was pretty intense was that I was skating around with my cousin in florida and we were just cruising around this black sort of Caribbean security guard came out screaming at us freaking out and we told him to chill. He started freaking out even more, like ballistic and he called the cops on us. I was scared as shit since I was just a visitor and I thought if I got in trouble I’d lose my visa. We waited for like five minutes and when he turned around we just blasted the fuck out of there and hid in a Burger King.
Hahahaha that’s so sick. I’ve always wanted to run from the cops like that, but I’ve always been too much of a sissy. I bet you were pretty stoked when you got sponsored by Individ, huh?
I was never sponsored by Individ Clothing, I was sponsored by Invasion Skateboards, but I never really got on since the guy Will stopped answering my messages and I never really ordered stuff since I only got a discount and it would have been really expensive for him to ship the stuff out here. But yeah, I was really stoked out of my face and that’s when I started filming a lot with the guys at the shop and now I’m finishing up my part for the shop vid.
Oops haha. I had a feeling I was wrong. But that’s way sick. I would have been incredibly stoked as well. What are some of your favorite tricks to do?
I love to do wallrides, wallies, frontside tailslides, and bs 360s which is like the only legit flat trick I can do now, since I barely skate flatground any more.
Why the shift from street to tranny?
I skate street and tranny about the same, the thing is that tranny has way more flow to it, and that’s what I like when I skate. I used to enjoy skating stairs a bunch, but that has no flow, just jumping down and then climbing up the stairs isn’t fun to me, I need to flow.
Yeah, that’s very true. I’ve always wanted to try tranny, but there’s no legitimate spots around me. So moving back to personal kind of questions, do you have a ball and chain?
Not really, I’d really want one right now especially being that I will be on vacation for 6 months. The right girl just hasn’t showed up.
Hmm, that makes sense. What do you do in your free time aside from skate and lurk SBC?
Well I party a lot, there isn’t much to do here besides skate and party, everybody starts drinking like when they are 14 here so everybody gets wasted here. It gets pretty fun, but I’m kind of sick of it.
*gasp* There is no such thing as being sick of drinking! Haha. What kind of music are you in to?
Not really sick of drinking, just kind of sick of going to the same club every weekend and see the same shitty people (not including my friends). I kind of have a variety of music I like, I like Alternative rock, I love bands like Dr.Dog, Belle and Sebastian, New Order, Velvet Underground. I also love Thrash metal, especially Slayer when I skate,I love some old school hip hop especially the Wu, I love Wu, and finally I love Electronic music, I’m a huge fan of raves and the music and a few of my friends are DJ’s. There’s probably more, but these are the ones I can name right now.
It’s always so awesome to see people with such a wide variety in music. What about video games, movies and television?
I don’t really watch a lot of TV, and I don’t play video games anymore other than some occasional FIFA matches at my friends house. I do love movies though, I usually hate all those fake action movies (Although I loved the new A-Team), I usually like indie movies, that have real drama, but have some humor in it, I also love any comedy, and I seem to really dig chick flicks. I also watch a shitload of skate vids, i have over 300 videos in my collection.
Chick flicks, eh? Well we’ll try not to have any more obligatory questions haha. Do you have any pets?
I have two dogs, a black chihuahua, and a foxhound, I also have a spider monkey.
What?! I want a monkey! That thing is awesome haha. Are you a fan of any sports?
I used to be a big fan of soccer, now I just sort of follow Manchester United, not religiously though. I do enjoy watching the Red Sox play though.
No football? That’s disappointing. What do you plan on doing with your life after you’re all done with school?
Welll I don’t really like planning, I’m a pretty spontaneous guy, I just chose advertising because after getting some feedback with some of the guys I talked to at career day that it would be the most spontaneous (I’m really creative too) so it seemed like a perfect match. I hate having a schedule and plans, I just like to flow around kinda like my skating. Although my spontaneity had led me to some pretty sketchy situations. It just makes it more fun.
That sounds really sick. What would you be doing exactly?
I would like to be one of the guys in the creative part, making new ideas. Also, I’ve been told an advertising agency is a pretty hectic place. Suddenly a job pops up and you have to come up with an idea fast, you also get the chance to direct commercials and meet a lot of new people and beautiful girls (you wouldn’t want an ugly bitch selling your product, right?). I’ve been told it’s the least monotonous job you can find so that’s what appeals to me.
That actually sounds like a lot of fun, minus the whole deadline thing haha. Well it’s about time to wrap the interview. I figure we can do a couple top threes and such?

Dream cars
1967 Pontiac Firebird in red (My dad used to own one and I have so many memories from that car), Orange Lamborghini Diablo, I don’t how they make the new ones, but the Diablo is the most badass of them all, fuck I can’t think of another one so I’ll just say a Pontiac GTO the judge like the one in Starsky and Hutch.
Books
The Stranger by Albert Camus. That book basically changed my life, I still love this book that I read in 8th grade called The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin, and although it’s not a book, I just love to read Thrasher, it’s the only mag worth reading.
Movies
That’s a hard one. Adventureland, Into the Wild, and The Boat that Rocked. I’m in love with Kristen Stewart be sure to include that. I even wacthed both Twilight movies just to see her.
