Thanks to Skateboard-City’s own Scoffman and Scoff Skateboarding, a few lucky Skateboard-City members have been lucky enough to receive free Scoff Skate Laces for review.
I have received my pair, put them through their paces, and here’s the lowdown:
The laces are a navy blue color, with an almost waxy appearance due to the reinforcing. They are quite stiff as you can see in the second picture, they hold their shape unlike standard laces
The shoes i will be using are the Etnies Faction (unlaced).
I have skated them for about a month, i usually skate street, and i do my fair share of flip tricks. I do not do many switch tricks, and my switch foot lace usually holds up fairly well, so i have decided to put only my front lace in, and save the other lace for my next pair of shoes. I skate at least a couple hours a day, and my grip is fairly old and worn. However, i am purchasing a new deck soon, but i am confident that these laces will hold up great even against brand new grip.
Stock lace in left foot, scoff lace in right
Ease of lace up:
Semi difficult in non metal eye let shoes. The reinforced material makes pulling the laces through the eyelets kind of tough. Though tough to lace up, this factor adds to the next section…
Grip:
Extraordinary grip! 10/10, you can literally not tie your shoes, and they will stay as tight on your feet as you want. The material used to reinforce the laces is super duper grippy, and grips the eyelets almost too well. Once tied, these babies will not come loose.
Abrasion Resistance:
9/10, these laces have lasted longer than the shoe! the etnies quickly went to shit, but the scoff lace never ripped, there are small wear and tear marks, but the lace held up great, and i will be putting them in my adidas silas baxters which i just recently started skating
Fraying:
10/10 there was no fraying of the lace on my part. The reinforcing of the lace bonded each thread extremely well.
Appearance:
8/10 after being skated, the lace looks more or less the same as it did when i first received them aside from normal wear caused by skating. Some people may not like the look of the laces, and i did receive a couple comments from people asking what was up with the weird lace on my front foot. Honestly though, the only people who care are hypebeast faggots, if it performs well, then all is good in my book.
Overall:
9.5/10!! I HIGHLY recommend that ANYONE WHO RIPS LACES QUICKLY should buy some scoff laces. for only four bucks, these things are a steal! They will most likely out last your shoe, and if they do rip, you can staple the two ends a couple time instead of trying to knot it up. I would like to thank scoffman for his generosity of sending me a pair.
