Gentlemen and Idiots, today history is made, SBC’s first ever Double Member of The Month!!
Let’s get to know our first elite members…
skatensurf & riskitforabiskit
Right so first off, basics. Name, age, location.
skatensurf: Drake, 16 Florida
riskitforabiskit: Joe, 16, Melbourne Australia
Alright so the immediate question, either of you guys still skate? Drake I know you surf…
riskitforabiskit: I went for awhile without doing it much but I’ve been getting back into it recently.
skatensurf: Yeah I quit skating but I still surf a lot, way more than I’ve ever skated.
riskitforabiskit: But I’m not very good anymore.
skatensurf: Yeah I suck haha…I’m getting pretty good at surfing now though.
So what I’m hearing, is that the king elites of SKATEboard-city don’t skate much? haha.
riskitforabiskit: I’ve skated twice this week, thank you very much.
skatensurf: I hurt myself a little while ago and I can’t really skate… I can still surf fine though. I still longboard though, if that counts as skating.
Very nice, very nice. So on the topic of elites, since that’s the bones of this interview…… how does it feel being the two gurus chosen to run the whole deal? Flattering? Gay? Blue?
riskitforabiskit: I feel I earned it.
I’m gonna agree. Drake?
skatensurf: I wasn’t really expecting to be elite… I didn’t think any of the staff really liked me so I was pretty surprised and happy about it.
Apparently you guys dominated the voting from what I heard.
skatensurf: I barely beat starcraft.
Still beat him though, and no one was close after him.
skatensurf: That kid has it rough…he always barely gets knocked out of everything.
Haha yeah he does get beat. MOTM is always just out of his grasp.
riskitforabiskit: Maybe he can be vice dude, like if one of us retires or something. Or dies.
Mmm that’s bad luck
skatensurf: He was almost a mod a while back too.
riskitforabiskit: Is this a StarcraftLedZeppelin tribute interview now?
Hadn’t heard about that… moving on from Starcraft, how do you guys like the site since the rep reset and new group modifications?
riskitforabiskit: I like it. It’s a lot different from the XMB days, obviously.
skatensurf: I like it better I guess…I’ve kind of gotten the better end of all of it though
Yeah I think we all have
skatensurf: Sucks for the people who were almost guru though
riskitforabiskit: Skatensurf, you remember the old XMB era?
skatensurf: Yeah that was right when I joined. I wasn’t really active then…I remember I wanted to be Guru Again really badly though.
riskitforabiskit: I remember getting it. Proud moment.
skatensurf: An icon for sure.
So which era do you prefer?
skatensurf: I like how it is today better I think… it’s more organized and people aren’t just judged by posting a lot. But the quality of posts was better before I’d say
riskitforabiskit: XMB era certainly had something great about it. But the site is a lot better organized and managed now. But I’ll have to agree with skatensurf, the quality of posts and members was a lot better.
I was about to say that Drake, since you’ve been pretty helpful catching worthless posts.
riskitforabiskit: I think 4chan had less of an influence back then as well, which made everything more tolerable.
skatensurf: I almost feel like copy-pasting an old thread, then watching the posts today compared to the posts then.
Well since this is a new day….. what exactly do you guys have in store for the elite ‘program’?
riskitforabiskit: Let’s just say we have a few cards up our sleeves.
Top secret crap, eh?
skatensurf: We’ll leave it at that
riskitforabiskit: No further questions.
I feel like a paparazzi And since I can’t ask that, let me keep at the elite subject, beat the dead horse just a bit longer; what do you DISLIKE about the reorganization, the user hierarchy and the invention of elites, if anything?
skatensurf: There’s not really that much I’d change about it actually.
riskitforabiskit: I like it because I seem to benefit from it, but I think it could be a bit of a distraction from people making good posts, since back in the old days you were basically a mod or you weren’t.
Very true. The horizons a little cluttered these days, and we don’t even have rook 2 or steeze members yet.
riskitforabiskit: You lost me.
skatensurf: or respected 2
Lots of groups = lots of colours = lots of confusion. Yes?
riskitforabiskit: Yes.
Well then, let’s get outside of SBC for a little bit….. what’s school looking like for you guys?
riskitforabiskit: I started summer holidays a couple of weeks ago, so nothing on the immediate horizon. Just another year to go.
skatensurf: My grades are pretty bad right now… I worked really hard this week so I could skip tomorrow and surf so I’m pretty excited about that haha
You’re both….. juniors? Is that what they call them in
riskitforabiskit: Down here it is just year 10, 11, 12 or whatever. This year I was in year 11. Next year will be year 12, the final year of high school.
skatensurf: I’m a junior
The US still has a whole 18 weeks before the school year is done…
riskitforabiskit: Suckers.
Pretty much. Joe, opinions on the Obama election from an outsider’s perspective?
riskitforabiskit: I’m glad he won, he seems the most sane.
Drake, insiders perspective?
skatensurf: I really don’t pay a whole lot of attention…. I was pretty annoyed by the kids who were just going with what their parents thought and would get really mad when you said you liked the other person.
Yeah I caught a lot of shit for who I supported, I understand the feeling there.
School leads to girls, either of you got anything going for you?
riskitforabiskit: Not at the moment.
skatensurf: Nope. Maybe it’s because we both spend too much time on SBC…
riskitforabiskit: I’d say so.
In the interest of keeping things moving, I’m always curious why people join the SBC forum. What were you guys’ reasons?
riskitforabiskit: I was originally on SBC in 2003 for the skate stories and trick tips. I always saw the message board button but I just assumed it would be shit and only have like 10 members. Then one day I finally clicked it and I liked what I saw.
skatensurf: That’s pretty much exactly how I joined haha
riskitforabiskit: And the rest is history.
skatensurf: I remember Collin, the skate stories guy, was a badass.
riskitforabiskit: The skate stories were the greatest.
I was always amazed how many people liked skate stories. I was never a fan.
skatensurf: I don’t really see what’s not to like
What are you guys into outside of skating/surfing? Hobbies, essentially.
riskitforabiskit: I play a fair amount of guitar.
Specifics? Like, style?
riskitforabiskit: Nothing really specific, just general stuff. I don’t really have a focus in it. Since I like so many different kinds of music, I can’t make myself just play heavy metal or something.
skatensurf: Surfing’s pretty much all I do…when I’m home I’m pretty much bored and finding stuff to do. I play a lot of xbox I guess
riskitforabiskit: I’m on the computer a lot. But that’s not getting me anywhere.
Post counts tell all
riskitforabiskit: I don’t see how some people can get 15,000+ posts.
That’s going back to that whole ‘useless posts’ things. You’re both 16….. how’s driving going? Or is it?
riskitforabiskit: I’ve been meaning to apply for my learner’s permit test soon.
skatensurf: I drive…I got my family’s ’00 Durango… it’s so much nicer being able to get food when I’m hungry and go to the beach whenever since it’s an hour away.
Yeah it definitely is. Joe, driving = freedom. Kind of. ‘Till you’re of age to drink.
riskitforabiskit: I’ve had no problems buying from the liquor store and going to the pub and stuff. I’d still rather be able to drive, though.
Alright so top 3’s. Reasons why you guys still come on SBC.
skatensurf: riskit go first so I know what to do haha
riskitforabiskit:
1. Keeps me up with what’s going on around the world and the web
2. Keeps me entertained with lots of idiots and a few smart people.
3. I wouldn’t know what to do without it.
skatensurf:
1. Habit
2. Entertainment
3. Sometimes it’s helpful
So you guys would agree with Vivica’s theory that SBC is like an addiction?
riskitforabiskit: When you’ve been on for as long as we have you start to forget how you ever lived without it.
skatensurf: Yeah it’s pretty much just a habit…and it’s helpful when you feel like not putting any effort into something, you can get SBC to do it.
Next top 3… television shows
skatensurf:
1. Firsthand
2. Dirty Jobs
3. Man vs. Wild
riskitforabiskit:
1. The Simpsons
2. Seinfeld
3. Beavis and Butthead
Bands
riskitforabiskit:
1. NOFX
2. Dream Theatre
3. Beastie Boys
skatensurf:
1. Sublime
2. Slightly Stoopid
3. Lil’ Wayne…just to piss people off
And it will haha. On to top three most hated members
skatensurf: Haha I don’t have an order… but…. shit I don’t’ want to say Park-City Legend cause he’ll be all “OMG I WAS IN THE INTERVIEW I’M FLATTERED RLY”
1. Par-City Legend
2. BonesSkater
3. Skater goth
AMEN
riskitforabiskit: Anyone who thinks all the 4chan internet meme nerd shit is funny is the worst in my books. And Skater goth.
AMEN AGAIN
riskitforabiskit: That’s what happens when you give the nerds too much power.
Alright then… sorry I kept this at such basic questions, I’ve been trying to just fetch the info that will hopefully interest SBC most. Hopefully I didn’t waste anyone’s time. Gotta ask, am I the only one that’s online tonight purely to get this done?
riskitforabiskit: I’d probably be on the computer anyway.
skatensurf: Yeah I’d be on anyway… my friends all have school tomorrow.
So I’m alone. Oh well, so goes life. Well guys, I think we can go ahead and wrap this up, anything you guys wanna say to the members of SBC?
riskitforabiskit: Go to hell.
skatensurf: Stop sucking so much.
Hahaha alright then, this finishes up the dual-elite MOTM interview… Thanks guys and good luck with those top secret elite plans.
