Transworld – And Now

Transworld - And Now

And Now[/I] is the most recent video produced by Transworld Skateboarding. It was filmed over a very short period of time in 2007 and 2008. It was a mostly-Am themed video, all of the main skaters are relatively young Ams, hence the video’s title: And Now.

David Gravette
Gravette’s part was great, definitely one of my pet favorites. His part was basically a mix of relatively innovative skating and more traditional skating. He skates hard and fast, and I loved the way his part went with his song. He’s got pretty much every 50-50 variation down, and I don’t think it would be a stretch to call him the King of the 50-50. He’s great at tranny/vert skating, and he seems to have an awesome trick for every spot. He does a lot of Noseblunts and Lipslides, and is a master of the art of the No Comply. A lot of sick shit goes down in his part, definitely not a part to skip.

His part starts the video off on a helluva good note.

Matt Miller
Matt Miller has pop. That’s his most defining characteristic as a skater. His part seems a bit……….plain to me, though. A lot of relatively basic tricks, mixed in with a bunch of good ones, and a few incredible ones. He’s more of a ledge skater, he doesn’t hit up many really big stair sets, tranny, or handrails. There’s a few good lines, and there’s definitely a few tricks where you’ll shit your pants and say, “HOW THE FUCK DID HE DO THAT?!?!” but overall, a relatively plain part. It’s worth watching, though. His ender is incredible, you definitely don’t wanna miss that.

Richie Jackson
Richie Jackson – Unique

Richie Jackson
Richie Jackson is an innovative skater, sort of like Patrick Melcher. He does tons of cool tricks that I can’t fathom doing myself. The thing about Jackson that impresses me, however, is his well-roundedness. He may be more of a non-traditional skater, but he does have the ability to throw more complicated flip tricks into long lines. He’s also able to take his tricks off of large stair sets, which is something most skaters like him fail to do enough, and I really like that. Another impressive skill of his is his ability to take basic flip tricks and traditional tricks, and add his own little zing to them. I had known about him before this part, but to most people, this was the first footage of him that they had seen, and it definitely left a mark. You wouldn’t think that the man was 22 based on how he skates, or how he looks, that’s for sure!

Definitely a part to watch. Hell, watch it over and over again, it’s sick!

Montage
What’s there to say, it’s a montage of skaters, young and old, well-known and unknown. Normally, I know you’ll be inclined to skip this part, but don’t, there’s some really awesome stuff in the montage, and a lot of my favorite skaters have a few tricks. Solid skaters such as: Silas Baxter-Neal, Ray Maldonado, Corey Duffel, Stefan Janoski, Patrick Melcher, Guru Khalsa, Walker Ryan, Kellen James, Justin Brock, John Motta, Guy Mariano, and Tyler Bledsoe had a trick or two each, along with dozens of other skaters. Maldonado’s one of my favorite relatively unknown skaters there is, and he contributes with a couple of sick tech tricks. Also, in a recent Habitat ad in some magazines you may have seen that Austyn is officially Am for Habitat. The Nose Manual from his ad? In this montage.

Kenny Hoyle
A lot of people who saw Kenny’s part in It’s Official were impressed, and had been waiting to see another part out of him. Hoyle did not let anyone down with this part, he’s still got that silky smooth style. His part in And Now is a little bit more tech than his other two parts, but he still goes big as shit. This is a part that I think a lot of people overlooked to watch Malto’s and Trapasso’s parts, and I advise any of you who ignored his part to watch it again, because it’s sick. He threw down some tricks off of huge stuff, but his part was mostly ledge skating and flip tricks, and I liked that. There’s a few manny tricks and sick lines thrown in as well, giving it more of a balance, and making it fun to watch. On a side note, I liked his song, and thought it went well with his style of skating. Check it.

Nick Trapasso
Nick Trapasso – He Likes Burrito’s

Nick Trapasso
HOLY SHIT. What to say about this part? This has to be one of the greatest, most well-rounded, fun to watch parts I’ve ever seen. He does EVERYTHING in his part, from steezy-ass no comply tricks to huge stairsets, tech ledge-tricks to rail shredding. He does everything in his usual buttery style, and I’d have to say that this part one-ups his first part in Suffer The Joy
, which was sick as well. It’s a bit more tech, and way more well-rounded. I loved his intro, too, and his ender? Are you kidding me? When you put it all together to a John Lennon song? Perfect. Just perfect.

Sean Malto
Well, this was the part that everybody was waiting for, the reason most people watched the video. Sean Malto’s first real legit part. He doesn’t disappoint, but he doesn’t make you say wow, either. A very, very good part. It’s done in his usual style, some huge stuff, lots of rails, and a handful of tech ledge tricks. He shreds whatever he skates, and is great at switch. He really does seem like the second coming of Koston, so don’t miss his first real part!

Final Notes
And Now
And Now…

Well, this really was one of the best skate videos I’ve seen in a while. It’s very, very well-rounded, exhibiting all styles and types of skateboarding, which is something I love about it. A lot of people have been making comparisons between it and Fully Flared, and I just don’t think that’s fair. Appreciate skate videos for themselves, not for the way they match up with other videos. That said, an amazing video, and one that’s not coming off my iPod any time soon.

Final Grade: 9.9/10
There may not be such a thing as a perfect skate video, but this one came pretty close, for me. Everything fit together perfectly to create a masterpiece that couldn’t be topped. The parts were incredible, the music was good, there was really no major flaw in the video, and I would consider it one of the greatest skate videos I’ve seen in the past 2 or 3 years.
