–Blank Skate Supply & Jargon Distribution – Non Friction Urethane wheels are made by Jargon Distribution and are based on a formula for urethane that NASA uses. Now I’m not sure how related space and skateboarding urethanes are, but whatever works. These wheels definitely do that.
These wheels claim to be made of a urethane that is hard enough to not wear down quickly and not flat spot, but still have a soft feel. So let’s go through these claims. Now before these wheels, I was riding thicker and fatter soft wheels so I’ll be comparing these to those. The first thing I noticed right away is the difference in width, there is a picture comparing the two wheels, the NFU wheel is quite a bit more skinny than my old one, but it’s also quite a bit lighter which is a plus.
Getting to skating these wheels, it did take a remarkably long time to just wear out the treads they came with. Compared to my older, softer wheels, these are noticeably harder. If you were to speed up, and just do a power slide, you would find yourself gliding for probably double the distance. This could also have to do with the width though. The feel I have to say is definitely soft for how long it takes to put some wear on these wheels. The wheels are soft enough so you will never slip up when skating, but if you make an effort to power slide or blunt slide, you will definitely feel they are a bit harder and like I mention, you will find yourself sliding pretty well. But no matter how hard you try, you cannot put a flat spot in these wheels. Even on rougher and sharper surfaces at high speeds no one could get anything close to a flat spot.
So to sum it up, these wheels are harder, and are amazingly difficult to flat spot (if its possible at all). The claim of a soft-feel is true for how durable these wheels are, but compared to some soft wheels on the market, these do slide easier, but mainly on tricks such as blunt slides where your wheels are used to slide. Overall, these are great wheels, more affordable then name brand wheels, yet much better. Definitely check these out the next time you shop at Blank Skate Supply if you’ve had problems with flat spots or bad durability in the past.
