All of this is in aid of his skatelace project. At the moment Scoff manually reinforces skatelaces, a horrid and extremely messy looking process, which no doubt is causing havoc for the poor guys lungs!! The sale of Scoff skatelaces and t-shirts is all in order to fund the purchase of a machine to take over this process, allowing for greater production volume, and hopefully therefore a much wider distribution network.
Me being the tight arse that i am, didn’t get around to buying a tee until they were at rock bottom prices, and i really do mean ROCK BOTTOM!! I ordered 2 tees, which posted cost me a total of $25. In addition to these 2 tees, i was lucky enough to win a Mini-Mega-Ramp Project shirt from a contest run a month or so back. So in total, 3 shirts for $25, Bargain.
And wait, that’s right, i live on the other side of the Atlantic, that’s right kids, postage to lil ol’ Guernsey was included, absolute bargain.
When i received the package from Scoff i wasn’t sure if all 3 items were in it, it was Very small, but somehow he managed to get them all in there. Also included in my package was an original photo of Jason (Scoffman) on his mini-mega-ramp, along with a Skateboard-City sticker – as if i don’t have enough already!
Really nice touch though, and the fact i was also given a pair of free skatelaces with my Battlescar t-shirt is another massive bonus as i’m sure they’ll outlast my shoes!
It makes sense for me to talk about the Mini-Mega-Ramp tee first, seeing as it was the first one chronologically. If i’m honest, i’m not a massive fan of this one… may as well be honest about it. There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s a perfectly good shirt, just nothing special. It has so far had the least wear out of the 3 tees, and i’ve not really had any positive comments about it from anybody. As i say, this isn’t negative, just not positive either. The material this shirt is made of (100% pre-shrunk cotton) is undoubtedly thicker and corser than the Battlescar tee (organic ringspun combed cotton) and the Ruben Signature tee (ringspun combed cotton). I think about the other 2 shirts as being, something a little bit special, where as this one is “just another shirt”. But for $5 a pop, still a pretty good buy – especially as you’re supporting a company like Scoff – skateboarding for skateboarders, the way it should it.
The Battlscar tee is quite a different matter!! I LOVE this shirt! The shirt is very long in the body, something that i really like in a shirt, hugs the body quite well, and breathes really well. The material is very light and airy. If it’s worth anything to you guys, my girlfriend love this shirt too, it’s one of her favourite shirts for me to wear. If that’s not a recommendation, i don’t know what is!! I can only assume that she likes this one because it hugs my manly physique so well… I’ll leave that thought with you.
Very similar opinion on the Ruben Najera Signature Series T-shirt, it’s the most light and airy shirt i’ve ever owned. Even during this summer where temperatures have regularly been hitting new highs, i’ve been able to wear this shirt without over heating – And i have it in black! You often find with thin shirts like this that they feel light, but don’t breath at all – so you end up soaked in sweat on the inside. Not a good look. This shirt, i can reliably assure you, will help even the sweatiest teen keep cool and dry. (Advert ends here)
The very first place i wore this shirt was out to work – i work in an office and we have the odd dress-down day. The very first person who saw me once i’d
arrived into the office (who happens to be the head of our compliance department!) commented on it and said she really liked it, thought it fitted really well, and liked the boldness of the gold design. I’m yet to talk to anybody who doesn’t like it. Admittedly my family to take the mickey out of its shiny design… But if your family can’t make fun of your dress sense, what can they make fun of?
This shirt is now by far my favourite t-shirt, it wins over the Battlscar shirt on because of both the design, and the geometry. I would personally rather not have my upper arms showing off when i’m out and about, so this shirt suits me perfectly!
The Ruben Najera Signature tee is not for the shy, as it does make a bit of a statement – i’m sure this would happen even more so if you were man enough to buy the purple version… I almost wish i had gone for the purple one now. Interesting enough, at time of writing, they’re the only colourway that’s not sold out. In testament to how much I wear this shirt, on writing this review, I was unable to get a photo of it because i’ve just thrown it in the wash again!
In conclusion, if you need a shirt, and like the designs, buy one!! While these are on sale ($5 – $10), they’re a steal. It would be really nice to see Scoff continue to put out shirts, especially if they’re going to be in the same style as the Ruben Signature tee, and with the same fully certified organic source cotton – clothing with a conscience anybody?
Apologies for the sloppiness of my post all, any questions, post ’em up.
