Jessup Griptape has been around for a while now, and it's one of the top known names when it comes to griptape.
This stuff is pretty much the standard; lot's of shops will give you a sheet of this stuff with any board you buy for no cost, some will charge you, but the cost will always be pretty average. Just browsing some online skate shops, we find that Jessup Griptape is usually a dollar cheaper then other well known brands.
Applying this stuff, the glue feels strong, but not the rip-your-skin off kind of strength. This is not a bad thing though, because we've skated a lot of Jessup gripped board, and we've never ran into any troubles regarding the grip coming off.
The grip feels very good, and it seems like a perfect grit; the shoes drag well, but not to the point where its ripping your shoe apart after a few ollies. We're extremely happy with the grit of the girp, and its overall friction with the shoe when skating. Like all griptapes, it does fade as you skate the board more into its lifespan. I don't know if people who skate their boards for much longer then a month would find this grip ideal… For most skaters, this stuff is perfect. But if your a beginner whose board is going to last a few months, you might find the grip a bit week after a while. I believe its pretty key to have good strong grip when your a beginner, because your going to be learning the mechanics of ollies and kickflips, which with week grip, make it harder to learn.
Overall, we love this grip. It's not pricey, it doesn't rip your shoes too badly, and yet it sticks very well. The lifespan of this grip is about the average / and most popular lifespan of a board for a skater, so most people will be pleased. Even if your a beginner, we would still recommend this grip to you. Jessup is a solid deal!
