–Jargon Distribution – Death Grip Light is a silicone based grip tape designed for skaters who only skate their decks for up to 2 or 3 weeks.
It’s easy to tell this grip is not your average one just by touching it. It doesn’t have that harsh, rough feel that your average grip does.
When you start skating it though, there is no major difference from other grip tapes in the way your feet catch the board or anything like that. It is very surprisingly similar. We tried multiple times, doing a trick on a board gripped with this stuff, and another with your average aluminium brand name stuff and we couldn’t find any major differences. So despite is very unique and soft feel it works the same. We also believe that due to it being silicone based, it doesn’t wear down your shoes as much.
As mentioned at the start, it is only meant to last 2-3 weeks and this is somewhat apparent. The grip does seem to scratch or scrape a bit more then your average one. If you manage to scrape the grip on a curb or rail, you will see a more evident mark than on your average grip tape. The smaller grit (less rough) is a downside when after skating and getting small amounts of dirt on your board. Once that happends this grip starts going downhill.
So the final verdict is, if you want to try out a grip that might save you money on shoes then definitely check this out. The feel is very surprisingly similar to the typical metal based grip tape but it does scrape a bit easier. When dirt gets on the grip it really wrecks it more then normal grip, so keep it clean.
